PIEDs 101 and PUSH Audit Meeting

An introduction to Performance and Image Enhancing Drugs (PIEDs) will be led by Tim Piatkowski. Tim will discuss what drugs falls under the PIEDs umbrella, local and national epidemiology of PIEDs use, and how these drugs are administered. Dr Naomi Achong will discuss the endocrinological implications and outcomes of the use of PIEDs. Naomi will also discuss how we can monitor PIEDs users and when to refer to specialists. Dr Beng Eu will introduce us to the Performance and Image Enhancing Drugs Users’ Health (PUSH) Audit and invite us to take part in this groundbreaking work.

Dr Beng Eu

Beng has been a director and co-owner of Prahran Market Clinic since 1996.

Beng graduated from Melbourne University in1987, and completed a diploma in Family Medicine in 1996, through Monash University. He holds a Sports Medicine Certificate ASMF.

He previously worked in rural General Practice in Gippsland, and with the Alfred Hospital Infectious Diseases Outpatients Unit for 10 years.

Clinical interests include: HIV Medicine, Sexual Health, Sports Medicine, Addiction Medicine.

Tim Piatkowski

Tim completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science, and Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) at Queensland University of Technology.

Tim has been a research assistant on a number of projects involving neurological disease, muscular injury and rehabilitation, and alcohol and drug abuse treatment projects.

Tim has a number of publications under his belt and has presented at conferences. He also manages continued education program (CEP) workshops, and run specialised rehabilitation training and research programs with elite sporting teams. Tim presented the Insight Seminar Series in 2017 where he discussed young men’s steroid and other drug use [details].

Dr Naomi Achong

Dr Naomi Achong completed a Bachelor of Science and MBBS at the University of Queensland. She undertook her Advanced Training in Endocrinology and Obstetric Medicine at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

She has completed a PhD concerning insulin requirements in women with type 1 diabetes during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Naomi also has an interest in general endocrinology including diabetes and transgender health care. She currently works privately at Carina and Browns Plains.
