Leanne Phillips Nurse Practitioner, Qld Specialist Immunisation service

Topic : Immunisation requirements for PLHIV

Ms Leanne Philips works as a Nurse Practitioner in the Queensland Specialist Immunisation Service located at CHQ. She has over 20 years’ experience as a paediatric nurse, with a background in paediatric emergency nursing. Her interest in immunisation developed when she undertook a thesis titled “Barriers to opportunistic immunisation in the paediatric emergency department”; as part of a Masters in Advanced Nursing (Major Healthcare Research). She has a special interest in the immunisation of medical at risk children, particularly the immune suppressed. She has worked with Dr Clare Nourse (Infectious Disease Consultant) who leads the Paediatric HIV service at QLD children’s hospital. QSIS collaborated with ID to support the immunisation of paediatric HIV patients managed under CHQ care for QLD. She holds an Associate Lecturer position with the University of Queensland.

Dr Wendell Rosevear OAM HIV S100 General Practitioner

Topic : Engaging PLHIV in recovery and progressing recovery from addiction

Dr Wendell Rosevear works in Alcohol and Drug Recovery, HIV/AIDS, Rape and Sexual Abuse Recovery, General Practice, Gay and Lesbian Health, Counselling and Prisoner Health. He has worked in Prisons since 1975 and started work in Alcohol and Drug Recovery in 1965. In 1991 he founded GLADS: Gay and Lesbian Alcohol and Drugs Support Group. In 1993 he founded MARS: Men Affected by Rape and Sexual-Abuse. He trains Queensland doctors in helping addicts.

Dr Rosevear was 1996 Brisbane Citizen of the Year. In the same year, he received an AMA National Award for ‘Best Individual Contribution to Health Care in Australia’ and the the David Kopp Memorial Award for Service to the Gay and Lesbian Community. In 1997 he received an Anti-Violence Award for Work with Male Victims of Sexual Assault. He was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 1998 for work with people who have HIV/AIDS, Alcohol and Drug Problems and Victims of Sexual Assault. From 2015, Wendell has been an ongoing Member of State Domestic and Family Violence Implementation, now Prevention Council.

Dr Darren Russell Sexual Health Physician, Director of Cairns Sexual Health Service

Topic : Male Sexual dysfunction in PLHIV

Dr Darren Russell is a sexual health physician and the Director of Sexual Health at Cairns Hospital. He holds the positions of Adjunct Professor in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health at The University of Melbourne. He is a past-President of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Victorian AIDS Council, and the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations. His interests include Indigenous sexual health, and the elimination of HIV transmission and hepatitis C infections in Australia. He has worked as a clinician in the field of transgender health for 30 years and has prescribed hormonal therapy using an informed consent model for all of that time.
