HIV and Emergent (Resistant) STIs: Dr Stuart Aitken, Associate Professor David Whiley and Dr Emma Sweeney

Dr Stuart Aitken MBBS, Dip Ven, FAChSHM

Stuart is a specialist sexual health physician. He graduated from Medicine at the University of Queensland, and completed specialist training in 2006. He has worked as Senior Staff Specialist at Gold Coast Sexual Health before commencing private practice. He practices in all areas of sexual health, but his special interests are in HIV medicine, PrEP for HIV, gender medicine, herpes infections, skin conditions affecting the genitals and sexually transmissible infections.


Associate Professor David Whiley

Associate Professor David Whiley is a principal research fellow at the Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland and a research scientist at Pathology Queensland. Antibiotic-resistant STIs are a particular research interest of his, and he has been leading studies that aim to enhance STI AMR surveillance and treatment.

 


Dr Emma Sweeney, Post Doctoral Research Fellow

Dr Emma Sweeney is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research. Emma has eight years of experience in Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma research and has a keen interest in their antibiotic resistance and virulence/pathogenicity during infection. Dr sweeney will be presenting on “Mycoplasma genitalium infections in Queensland: antimicrobial resistance differs by region and gender”.
